Cranberries and Cranberry Juice do not help prevent UTI’s

We never thought it did. But researchers studied it anyway because of a close to century old wive’s tale that cranberries change the pH of the urine.  This one gets a NO DUH.

Right sided colon cancers have worse prognosis than left

This study reiterates the concern that right sided colon cancer may present with anemia as opposed to left sided’s more noisy symptom of rectal bleed and obstruction.  The latter may get picked up sooner, therefore allowing earlier intervention before metastasis.

Hospital scrubs carry MRSA and other superbugs

In training we used to wear the scrubs for 36-38 hours and go home in them, if we made it to our doorstep without falling asleep, and then return to the hospital the next day.  Since they’ve been found to harbor antibiotic resistant bacteria, they should be removed in the locker room and washed after shifts.   Staff should be aware that when they remove a pen from their pocket it could spread the bugs.
