If you thought people fleeing their homes after a lockdown was the swarm of the century, you ain’t seen noth’n yet…..

Trillions of Cicadas, known as Brood X (10), will emerge this year when the ground reaches 64 degrees Fahrenheit around mid May and the rave will last into late June.

According to Newsweek, the bugs will be seen in parts of Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Depending on the cycle, these large winged insects can emerge every 17 years after spending most of their lives in the soil.

Cicadas are not locusts. The latter swarm, are thinner and longer (look like grasshoppers), and have a shorter lifespan.

According to dengarden.com, differences are summarized below:

When they emerge they will make their presence known. The sounds they make are mating calls and can reach 100 decibels.

The bugs are relatively harmless to humans but can affect young trees and vines…..and maybe our sleep.

This is a developing story…..
