In recent years, multiple public figures have been banned on Twitter. These include Rep. Marjorie Tayor Greene, My Pillow’s Mike Lindell and former President Donald Trump.

In regards to the latter, Twitter chose to ban @RealDonaldTrump because they felt he went against their Glorification of Violence Policy.

The tweets they refer to are:

On January 8, 2021, President Donald J. Trump Tweeted:

“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

and….

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.

13 1/2 months later, Russian President Vladamir Putin invaded Ukraine.

Civilian casualties are reported to be rising exponentially, and Russian forces have taken control of multiple nuclear facilities.

So many now wonder why Russian President Vladimir Putin still has an active Twitter account with over 1.5 million followers.

It could be that Putin knows how to navigate Twitter rules better than the former Commander-in-Chief.

According to Twitter’s policy, one cannot threaten or promote violence. Nor is the promotion of terrorism or child exploitation allowed. Hence any tweet that violates their safety rules can be removed and the user banned.

So maybe the Russian President hasn’t been banned because the content within his tweets appears to not ping the radar or offend the social media giant.

Hence until Twitter expands their rules to those accused of committing genocide, Putin will continue to be active on the Twittersphere.
